About Me

Educational History:

I grew up in Andover and attended Andover Schools from Kindergarten to 12th grade, which was when we only had one elementary, middle, and high school.  It is amazing how much Andover has grown throughout the years.  I graduated from Newman University with my Bachelor’s Degree in December 1999.  I also received my Master’s Degree from Wichita State University in 2007.

Professional Development:

  • Kagan Cooperative Learning
  • Close Reading
  • Intel Essentials
  • Ed Camp of Kansas
  • Various Technology Trainings
  • McRel Higher Level Questioning
  • Rigor and Relevance

Current Position:

I began teaching at Robert Martin Elementary in 2000.  I have 17 years of teaching experience in this building.

Family Information:

I am married to sweet husband, Cody. We have one son {Cooper} who is in fifth grade here at Martin, and a daughter {Kinsley} who will begin her Martin journey in Kindergarten this year.  I am truly blessed to be their mom!  In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. We enjoy cheering on the Denver Broncos, camping, fishing, and being outdoors.

Personal Information:

I believe that as an educator it is my job to make sure my students feel safe, successful, and respected when they are in my classroom. I base my classroom on the idea of a family. I make sure that my students understand that their opinions and values are respected by all.

Students come into my classroom with a wide range of learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses. To accommodate these differences I use varying strategies of instruction. It is my job to make sure the students are recognized for their strengths and successes. The expectations on students in this day and age are very high. They are required to have many skills when entering the real world. I make sure to implement various team working activities to give my students the skills needed in furthering their education and finding a career. Incorporating many technology based lessons helps my students gain the expertise they will need as they continue to grow.

I believe it is also my job to instill characteristics needed to be a positive contributor to society. Students in my class understand that to get respect from others, they must also be respectful toward them. I focus on using proper manners at all times in my room. These basic skills are so important to their future. As my students leave my class at the end of the year, I hope they leave with a sense of pride in their accomplishments and that they feel they were unconditionally cared for.
