The Andover eCademy elementary program is designed to engage students in learning and promote success from an early age. We utilize both Accelerate Education courses and Andover eCademy-written curricula that align with state standards and serve as an effective, engaging and flexible curriculum.

Our courses help students gain the knowledge and thinking skills that they will need for life, work and higher education. At each grade level, we offer lessons in English Language Arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Students also have the opportunity to take electives such as Spanish, technology, keyboarding, art and more.

What is the role of a learning coach?

An elementary learning coach is someone available to the student throughout the day while the student is working on their curriculum. A learning coach will help the student set a schedule, maintain a consistent workday and provide support. The learning coach is a critical piece to the success of eCademy students.

Learning coaches:

facilitate the learning of their student through the curriculum with the support of licensed teachers along the way.
communicate with the licensed grade-level teacher for support and resources.
establish a consistent schedule for their student to find success with school while balancing his or her individual needs.
take ownership of a flexible schedule to enhance learning opportunities with a real-world application model.

What are the blended learning opportunities?

In addition to the online curriculum, students are invited to attend in-house days at our Andover campus several times a month. This is a time for students to gather together for cooperative learning and social interaction with their peers and teachers. In addition to the in-house days, students participate in live lessons. During a live lesson, students engage in small group video lessons set up much like a video conference call. This gives teachers and students the opportunity to collaborate together in their learning from home.

Live lessons: Live lessons are 20-30 minute mini-lessons with the teacher and a small group of peers in a virtual setting. Lessons are focused on language arts on Mondays and math on Tuesdays. Attendance is taken and incorporated into overall grades for English Language Arts and math.

K-5 in-house day: One Friday each month, K-5 students have the opportunity to attend eCademy on-site from 9 a.m-2 p.m. for a school day with their grade-level group peers. K-2 students and 3-5 students engage in social and academic activities with their teachers and peers in two separate classrooms. They also participate in P.E., art, and social-emotional learning with our school counselor. Lunch, recess and time for applying social skills and teamwork make this a well-rounded eCademy Elementary school day.

Eagle Explorations: Students investigate, explore and experience a variety of topics and activities one Wednesday per month from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Teachers, learning coaches, guest speakers and presenters provide engaging opportunities for K-5 students.

Intervention/enrichment: Students that would benefit from additional weekly support may participate in academic time with eCademy teachers for skill review or concept enrichment. Teachers organize in-person and virtual opportunities each Thursday throughout the school year.

STEM/art: One Wednesday per month, K-5 students may attend a 2-hour on-site activity that includes integrated science, technology, engineering and math explorations for one hour while the other hour is focused on standard-aligned art activities with a certified elementary art teacher.

Performing Arts Club: Students have the option of participating in a performance each semester. Requirements include practices on two Wednesdays each month incorporated during Eagle Explorations and on STEM/art days.

What curriculum does eCademy use?

Teachers provide a pacing guide (due dates) for lessons and assignments. Learning coaches guide students through the curriculum at home with the support of eCademy staff. Teachers add additional projects, videos and alternative assessments to enrich the curriculum. All written work, projects and assignments are teacher-graded. Parents and learning coaches are responsible for checking in with students daily on their progress, setting goals and offering academic support from home. Teachers are available to work with a student on difficult concepts, provide additional support to students and parents and answer any questions regarding the curriculum.

Students are provided with a grade level tub that includes workbooks, manipulatives and materials to support at home learning.

For our math and English Language Arts curriculum we use Accelerate Education while our science and social studies are teacher-authored guided by state and national standards.
