High School

The Andover eCademy high school program provides a rigorous, intensive and comprehensive curriculum to prepare our students for their postsecondary aspirations. We offer honors classes and with the flexibility of eCademy, students have the opportunity to take college classes. Along with the four core classes – English Language Arts, math, science and social studies – students can take elective courses such as leadership, community service, art and more. With our wide variety of elective choices, students will be able to find something that they are passionate about. Our program is NCAA-accredited and aligns with both state and national standards.

While all work can be completed virtually, high school students have the opportunity to do course work in person at the eCafe. The eCafe is a room dedicated solely to our high school students as an enjoyable workspace with a reliable Internet connection where teachers are available to answer questions.

What is the role of a learning coach?

A learning coach is a parent, guardian, relative, or other trusted adult who can guide the high school student through their learning.

A learning coach will:

Help the student set a schedule, maintain a consistent workday, and provide support.
Assist the student with time management and organization.
Encourage the student to reach out for help if they find themselves struggling. The learning coach is a critical piece to the success of eCademy students.
Check the student’s progress daily to ensure they are working and submitting assignments regularly.
Communicate with teachers when they have questions or concerns.
Ensure the student has internet access. If the home learning environment loses access, the learning coach will be responsible for getting the student to school or another location with internet access.
Get the student to school for required in-house opportunities, such as finals, FastBridge testing and state assessments.

A learning coach does not:

Teach content. We have licensed, experienced teachers who do that.
Grade assignments.
Do the work for the student and/or provide them answers. There’s nothing wrong with a student making mistakes--those are learning opportunities!

What are the blended learning opportunities?

We offer various blended learning opportunities to fit the needs of your student’s schedule.

eCafe
The eCafe is a room dedicated solely to our high school students as an enjoyable workspace with a reliable internet connection. Flexible seating options allow students to settle in and work comfortably. Teachers are always present and interacting with students. During eCafe hours, students may come and go as they see fit with no advance scheduling required.

Zoom sessions
Students are able to schedule zoom sessions with their teachers to receive individualized instruction. Through these sessions, students and teachers activate screen sharing capabilities so they can interact in real time with real examples as if they were collaborating in person.

Special events
High school students are invited to participate in several social events throughout the year, such as our Home Opener, jack-o-lantern carving, cocoa and cram, game days and more. This is an opportunity for students to get to know their classmates and enjoy time together.

Graduation
A graduation ceremony is held at the end of the year for our seniors. Students wear a cap and gown as they walk across a stage to receive their diploma with their classmates. This is a special time to recognize their achievements in front of family and close friends as they celebrate this milestone.

What curriculum does eCademy use?

All lessons are self-guided through our learning management system, Agilix Buzz. Teachers set due dates for all of the lessons and assignments to keep students on pace. Teachers add additional projects, videos, resources and alternative assessments to enrich the curriculum. All written work, projects and assignments are teacher-graded.

Learning coaches are responsible for checking in with students daily on their progress, helping set goals and offering academic support from home. Teachers are always available to work with a student on difficult concepts, provide additional support to students and learning coaches and answer any questions regarding the curriculum.

Courses are all embedded within Buzz, but use a variety of curriculums for their base. From there, teachers can modify and add their own content as well. Accelerate Education, FlexPoint, BrightThinker, Stukent, and eDynamics account for several of the courses. Numerous other courses are teacher-authored.

While the courses on Buzz provide the academic materials, students still benefit from having a learning area at home with school supplies at hand. Suggested supplies include:

spiral notebook for each class
pencils
pens
small dry-erase board and markers
calculator (scientific or graphing, depending on the math class)
highlighters.

If your student is taking an art class, other supplies might be required.

Chromebooks are available for students to check out for the semester. Personal computers are also allowed, but we will be unable to service any device not owned by the school.
