Middle school students at Andover eCademy have the opportunity to engage in a rich and interactive curriculum supported by virtual and in-person learning. Along with the core subjects – English Language Arts, math, science and social studies – eCademy offers electives such as art, Spanish and photography to create a balanced curriculum specific to student interest.

eCademy students have the opportunity to attend in-house days where students can create meaningful connections by working in-person with their teachers and peers. The eCademy middle school program also takes several field trips per year. This is a great opportunity for students to meet new friends and explore the Wichita-area museums and attractions!

What is the role of a learning coach?

A middle school learning coach is someone who is available to the student throughout the day, while the student is working on their curriculum. A learning coach will help the student set a schedule, maintain a consistent workday and provide support. We do not expect our learning coaches to teach the content, but to be a support role through time management and organization. Encourage your student to reach out for help if they find themselves struggling. The learning coach is a critical piece to the success of eCademy students.

Learning coach expectations:

The learning coach is available for communication with teachers and that they are checking on their students daily.
The learning coach sets up a working environment conducive to learning (primarily with adequate internet access).
The learning coach will help their student set a schedule. This requires that the student devote 6 hours to their coursework daily (about an average of an hour per class each day).
The learning coach holds their students accountable, stays committed and communicates with teachers.
The learning coach has high expectations. This will require assisting with lessons, checking for understanding and helping monitor the student's progress and comprehension. It is okay for students to make mistakes and struggle. Help them learn from those mistakes!

What are the blended learning opportunities?

We offer various blended learning opportunities to fit the needs of your student and your family schedule.

These blended learning opportunities (in-house and virtual) are optional and supplemental to the curriculum. We have found that students who participate in some of these opportunities tend to be more successful and feel connected to the school, teachers and peers.

Meeting Mondays

Mentor Mondays will be an opportunity to meet with your mentor teacher to prepare for the week!
We encourage students and learning coaches to take this day to prepare for the week.

Team Tuesdays

In-house days are an opportunity for students to come to eCademy and work with their teachers and peers.
Students and teachers love in-house days as they are a great way to develop peer relationships while receiving additional teaching and support in their classes.

Web Wednesdays

Teachers have set aside time this day to schedule one-on-one Zoom meetings with students. These student-guided meetings are dedicated to helping with specific content and questions.

Teach It Thursdays

Teachers will have scheduled whole-class Zoom opportunities for students. These will allow teachers to see what students are struggling with and offer opportunities for extra instruction.

Funday Friday

We take 4-6 field trips per year. This is a great opportunity for students to meet new friends and explore the greater Wichita museums and attractions! In the past, we have gone to the Exploration Place, Sedgwick County Zoo, Kansas Aviation Museum, The Museum of World Treasures and more!

What curriculum does eCademy use?

All lessons are self-guided through our learning management system, Agilix Buzz. Teachers set a pacing guide (due dates) for all of the lessons and assignments. Teachers add additional projects, videos and alternative assessments to enrich the curriculum. All written work, projects and assignments are teacher-graded. Parents and learning coaches are responsible for checking in with students daily on their progress, setting goals and offering academic support from home. Teachers are always available to work with a student on difficult concepts, provide additional support to students and parents and answer any questions regarding the curriculum.

Our core curriculum is provided by BrightThinker. Teachers can modify assignments and add their content as well. Elective courses are either teacher-authored or eDynamic courses.

Buzz includes all of the materials your student will need. Though most assignments can be completed online, occasionally you may need traditional school and art supplies, most of which are already in your house! You are welcome to use a home computer, or you may checkout and use the Chromebook provided by eCademy. Materials for supplemental activities during in-house days will be provided by eCademy.
