Elementary students require a solid foundation of knowledge to support future learning. Our elementary program is designed to engage students in learning and promote success from an early age. We utilize both Accelerate Education courses and eCademy written curriculums that align with state standards and serve as an effective alternative to public school or homeschool curriculum.

Our courses help students gain the knowledge and thinking skills they’ll need for life, work, and higher education. At each grade level, we offer lessons in the core subjects: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

We also understand the importance of offering course electives to give students a well-rounded educational experience. Our electives cover a wide range of topics from learning a foreign language, mastering the skills of daily living, to appreciating the arts.

What does a typical day look like?

It takes about a month to get into a good “routine.” A typical day is different for each family, but consistency is the most important. Learning for an average on-level student should take anywhere from 4-6 hours. Some students may take longer, some may finish sooner, but if a student is requiring 8 + hours, TALK TO YOUR TEACHER. If a student is finishing in an hour or less, TALK TO YOUR TEACHER. We want to teach students at their instructional level, so assignments may need to be modified for remediation or enrichment.

Each day should consist of play time and outside time if possible in between lessons.
Some days will include a 30-45 minute online lesson with the teacher.
Some days may be an in house day or club day.
Each day should begin and end with checking emails or announcements in Buzz for any school and/or teacher messages.
Each day should end with reflection, reading teacher feedback, redoing any assignments, and making sure everything is turned in for the day.
Each morning should consist of breakfast and getting dressed for the day as well as goal setting; what needs to be accomplished that day?

Materials

We provide all the texts, lesson plans, and materials—everything you need for a high-quality learning experience at home. Most curriculum content for the younger grades is in print, supplemented with online content. As your student advances through virtual elementary school, more of the content is delivered online with support by printed materials. Your teacher will also provide a school supply list with all the tools you will need to help your student succeed.

Blended learning opportunities

In addition to the online curriculum, students are invited to attend in-house days at our Andover campus several times a month. This is a time for students to gather together for cooperative learning and social interaction with their peers and teachers. In addition to the in-house days, students participate in live lessons. During a live lesson, students engage in small group video lessons set up much like a video conference call. This gives teachers and students the opportunity to collaborate together in their learning from home.

Live lessons

Our lessons provide detailed directions and instruction, guiding the student through the coursework. Lessons are accessible online through our Learning Management System. These lessons not only provide differentiated instruction in a small group setting, but provide an opportunity for teachers to really get to know students as learners so that they may help guide instruction.
